James Clear is an American author, speaker, and entrepreneur best known for his work on habit formation and continuous improvement. Born in 1986 in Hamilton, Ohio, he studied biomechanics at Denison University, where he was also an accomplished baseball player. A life-changing injury during his college years set him on a path of exploring behavior change and personal development. He began publishing articles in 2012, blending science and storytelling to explain how small habits can lead to extraordinary results.
His 2018 book, Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones, became a global phenomenon, selling over 20 million copies and being translated into more than 60 languages. James also launched the “3-2-1 Newsletter,” which now reaches millions weekly with concise insights on habits and productivity. Beyond writing, he created tools like the Clear Habit Journal (2019) and partnered on educational materials to help readers implement his strategies. His work continues to influence leaders, athletes, and creatives worldwide.
