Eiichirō Oda, born on January 1, 1975, in Kumamoto, Japan, is the legendary manga artist behind One Piece, one of the best-selling manga series in history. Deeply inspired by Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), Oda began his career at 17 with his award-winning one-shot Wanted! and later worked as an assistant to renowned artists like Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin), which helped shape his distinct storytelling style. In 1997, he launched One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump, capturing global audiences with its rich world-building, emotional depth, and pirate-themed adventure.
One Piece has since become a multimedia empire, earning Oda numerous honors, including the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. His influence on the shonen genre rivals that of Toriyama and other manga legends. Known for his detailed art, humor, and long-form storytelling, Oda continues to redefine epic manga narratives and remains a towering figure in the world of Japanese comics.
